Spanish I
7th and 8th grade Spanish
If your child is registered for Spanish in 7th and 8th grades, he/she has the opportunity to earn high school credit for Spanish 1. During the 7th grade year, we will cover the same curriculum as the first semester of the high school course. During the 8th grade year, we cover the curriculum for the second semester. These classes will be scheduled as one of your child's connection classes. At the end of the 7th grade year, students with a passing grade will receive 1/2 unit of credit. At the end of 8th grade, they receive their second 1/2 unit of credit.
Grading system
Due to the nature of this class, the grading system is different from the grading of most of your classes. This is to align with the system used in all high school academic classes. The overall grade for each year (HS semester) is divided into 2 components: Coursework and Final Exam/SLO Post Pest.
|
Coursework - 80%
The coursework is 80% of the overall grade and runs cumulatively throughout the year. The coursework component is divided into 2 parts: Formative (29%) and Summative (71%).
As a student, it is your responsibility to keep up with all assignments. When you miss an assignment, YOU need to contact me for what you need. Due to the cumulative nature, grades posted on report cards each term are similar to a progress report. These grades will not be averaged together for the final average. |
Final Exam - 20%
The Final Exam counts for 20% of the overall grade for the year. The exam is a large portion of your final grade. We do our best to prepare you for the exam. If you keep up with all daily assignments and participate fully in all class activities, you will do well on the exam. There simply is too much information for you to be able to learn it all the night before the exam. It is very important that you keep up with studying the concepts and vocabulary a little bit each day.
